I am working on my 58 Estate Wagon. I redid the wiring harness/s and tested each line. I now have the harness in and am wondering how I should test the harness/s to ensure that the right wire is in the right socket in the rubber coupling device on the firewall. Thoughts? Equipment?
I am always wondering where the gas gauge needle should lay when there is no power going to it.
Cheers. Michael.

Are you asking which wires connect to the block inside the engine compartment?

Yes. I have the wires back where I "think" they should go so I would like to test the lines to ensure, for instance, that the turn signal terminals are correct or the starter cables are correct. Any thoughts? Also, where should the needle on the gas gauge sit when there is no power going to it? Sorry for the delay but it's been very busy up here. Cheers. Michael.

My gas gauge reads empty with the key off.
Aside from hooking up a battery and running the systems, I don't know how to check if you've got everything right.

You would have to use an Ohm meter to test continuity from one end of a wire to the other end on the other side of the block.
